March Community Chat: Project Homepages

Our next community chat will be focused on Project Homepages, particularly for Domain of One’s Own and WordPress Multisite! We will be bringing in Noah Mitchell from Coventry University, and John Stewart from the University of Oklahoma to discuss the designs of the homepages for their Domain of One’s and WordPress Multisite services, and how those homepages help their users navigate the various offerings available to them and how to get started.

Noah is an Innovation and Community Producer for Coventry University’s Disruptive Media Learning Lab (DMLL  and part of the team behind Coventry Domains . John is the Assistant Director for the Office of Digital Learning at the University of Oklahoma, and project manager for OU Create. We’re excited to talk to the both of them about the design goals for their project homepages, the decisions made to meet those goals, and the technical details on how they made it work!

Recording is available to watch here.

Announcing Instructional Technology at Reclaim Hosting

Reclaim Hosting has been providing edtech infrastructure for higher ed for almost 10 years. Now we want to work more directly with the people on the ground and build a broader professional development community for instructional technologists. These platforms are only as interesting as the people behind them, and it’s our goal to create a structure to help edtechs explore, question, learn, and build the future of teaching and learning together. We want to be a niche support hub and learning community for curious minds and creative tinkerers, whether you have a background in Instructional Design, advanced IT Support, or sit somewhere in between like most Instructional Technologists. Join as we explore what’s possible.

April Community Chat: What we talk about when we talk about WordPress

April’s Community Chat will focus around how you get others started with WordPress. Do you start with conversations around digital identity? Do you like to start with the technical stuff? Do you dig right into the dashboard, or talk about posts and pages? We want to hear from technologists, designers, or anyone who finds themselves teaching people how to get started with a WordPress site. Let’s discuss and share strategies for guiding folks that are just starting out!

Workshop: Domains 101 & Domains 201

The Reclaim Hosting team will running a virtual workshop about all things Domains. We’re inviting administrators from various Domain of One’s Own (DoOO) schools to attend for either one or both of the two days of topics focused around supporting a DoOO project on your campus.

The workshop is broken up into two distinct days. Day 1 is a 101 introduction to specific tools used to manage users and accounts in DoOO. The second day, 201, will take a deeper dive into customizing your domains instance, more sophisticated reporting and automation, as well as thinking through archiving and de-provisioning in-depth. You can choose to attend either or both days according to your needs.

These sessions will provide detailed training and concrete examples of administering and supporting Domain of One’s Own, along with dedicated time for addressing any specific issues with Reclaim Hosting, as well as hearing from other DoOO institutions. We will also be inviting panelists from veteran DoOO schools to speak about their experiences so you can get an in-depth sense of what it means to run a Domains program on campus as a beginner and/or as a veteran.

The workshop itinerary is outlined here.
